Mercy Chinwo, a well-known gospel singer, has filed a 2 billion naira lawsuit against Afrobeats singer, Obidiz, for unauthorized use of her name and image in his song.
According to the lawsuit filed by Mercy Chinwo’s legal team on March 23rd, 2023, the gospel singer accused Obidiz of using her name and photo in a derogatory manner in his music.
In response, Mercy Chinwo’s legal team sent a cease and desist letter to Obidiz, requesting that he refrain from using her name or image in any of his promotional materials or music. The singer also demanded that all photos, promotional content, and music featuring her name and image be removed by Obidiz.
If Obidiz fails to comply with these requests, he risks being taken to court and ordered to pay 2 billion naira in damages.
